Dolly's Philosophy: The decision to have a family is an exciting one. The thought of bringing a new life into this world is both exhilarating and a little frightening. Dolly believes that new families need support and encouragement in their decision. Parents need positive experiences with other young couples to give them a new "peer group" with common interests.

A healthy childbirth is the goal. A happy mother and family participating in their own prenatal care and education plan are the key factors in a successful pregnancy experience. Childbirth education goes beyond learning how to breathe with contractions, although that is very much part of the process. Psychological, emotional, and physical support for families through early prenatal contact, as well as continuing education throughout pregnancy and early parenting, will help make the childbearing experience a positive one.

Although birth is a normal physiological function, it is truly a miracle. As mothers learn of the incredible changes taking place in their bodies to support their pregnancy, they will gain a new respect for themselves and life in general. As mothers participate in group functions with a goal of promoting optimal pregnancy outcome, they will lower their risk factors for preterm birth. With the support systems already in place, mothers will move through those trying postpartum days with greater ease.

Childbirth education classes are made up of adult learners who challenge the educator with their diversity. Although class members are enthusiastic about the baby, they may lack confidence in their ability to cope with birth and parenting. The families must relate what they learn in class with what they already know. This process is facilitated during group childbirth education.

Dolly is dedicated to helping mothers and strengthening families. Prevention of low birth weight with its harmful effects is an integral part of our education program. Professionals and responsible working parents working together will accomplish these purposes. A pregnant woman is a joy to those around her. She is the hope of America and the foundation of life itself.
